October 2018 Society to Celebrate 90 th Anniversary Annual Meeting & Fall Conference Set for November 5-6 The Society has an outstanding Fall Conference and Annual Meeting planned for November 5-6 at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in La Vista. This will be the 18 th year for the Fall Conference, which draws approximately 200 registrants annually. The Society’s Annual Business Meeting luncheon is scheduled for Monday, November 5, at noon. This year marks a special milestone as the Society celebrates its 90 th anniversary in 2018 as well as the retirement of Dan Vodvarka, following 28 years of outstanding service to the organization. Please join us for a Retirement Party following the first day of the conference from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Headlining the Fall Conference will be AICPA Vice Chairman Bill Reeb, CEO of the Succession Institute, a management consulting firm based in Austin, Texas. A leading voice on succession planning, Reeb is an author and has founded six small businesses, including a CPA firm. Following Reeb will be Larry Kopsa of York, Neb.- based, Kopsa Otte CPAs to provide a federal tax update. Next on the agenda will be Tim Weidman, IT director at Frankel Zacharia LLC of Omaha, to discuss cybersecurity. Day one concludes with breakout sessions covering revenue recognition, technology audits, controllership, peer review, and employee recruitment and retention. Kicking off day two will be Nebraska Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton, presenting his annual report from the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Sandra Peters of the New York City-based CFA Institute will provide a FASB update, followed by breakout sessions on blockchain, fraud trends in Nebraska by the Nebraska Attorney General’s office, multistate tax issues, and state tax and spending issues by Sen. John Stinner. Jeremy Wortman of Lincoln, Neb.-based, HRD Initiatives will round out the final day of the conference with a session on ethics.
